About us

About us

InterKontinental e.V. is a state approved non-profit and politically independent association based in Berlin since 2018. The association’s goal is to promote literature from Africa as well as writers from African countries in Germany.

Book readings and launches

We had a diversity of authors from the African continent and its diaspora as guest: Panashe Chigumadzi, Yaa Gyasi, Emmanuel Iduma, Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, Niq Mhlongo, Yara Nakahanda Monteiro, Tete Loeper, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Bernardine Evaristo and Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor.

Literature podcast

As an homage to the ground-breaking (New) Daughters of Africa anthologies edited by Margaret Busby, author Panashe Chigumadzi is in conversation with fellow Black women writers across continents, genres, and generations in the four podcast episodes.

Writing workshops

We design innovative writing workshops to foster new talents. The curation, thematic focus, writing formats as well as the target groups change, so that exciting and diverse literary productions have come out of it.

Publications

We set up small publication projects in exchange for donations to support our activities. In 2022, the short story "Für dich würd ich 'ne Ziege stehlen" / "For You I'd Steal A Goat" by Niq Mhlongo was translated and published.

More than literature

How we work

Our work is based on an equal collaboration and exchange between Germany and the countries of the African continent and its diaspora. To ensure that, all our projects are curated by our African partners.

Our goal

Our work aims to promote African and Afro-Diasporic literatures in German-speaking countries. Through books and stories, we foster equal dialogue between the continents in order to work against prejudice, stereotypes, inequalities, neo-colonial structures and ultimately racism and discrimination.
